Sylar: Parasite or Hair Stylist? Discuss.
So I think I know what most of my problem is with Heroes, and I'm not sure it is necessarily a problem (at least for me): I watch too much TV. I really think that that is it. I watch too much, and in the hierarchy of shows, Heroes just falls in the middle to lower portion of quality for me. And I do look forward to it every week, but every week, I question why I do. And I think it's because I can see how it could be such a better show and nearly every week (with possibly last week being an exception) I am disappointed because it fails to deliver. But that's just me I guess. So as a whole, I think Heroes took a huge step backward last night, but it still had a couple of good moments, one of which actually managed to surprise me. That was Mama Petrelli's involvement in all of this. I guess if you are a parent and you speak a foreign language, you are automatically a member of the Conspiracy Club. But that was a cool reveal and I wonder if Grandma has some powers of her own. They do appear to be genetic. I also loved nearly everything with Nathan, who has slowly eclipsed Hiro as my favorite character (with Adrian Pasdar as easily the best actor on the show). Just like Mr. Bennet, he's not really bad; he's just secretive, so it just looks like he's bad. But he certainly is power-hungry and I suppose that's why Linderman still lives (or maybe Nathan just really wanted a pot pie). So Linderman...I like Malcolm McDowell, so that's cool. And I don't really know what his game is, so that's cool too. But I am wondering if maybe he has some sort of mind control powers, or something of the like. For someone so powerful, he seemed very at ease being alone with someone who could have very easily killed him. He also seemed very certain of Nathan's meteoric rise to power. Was he just playing on Nathan's desire to be powerful or does he actually have the ability to make what he says reality? Did Mr. Isaac paint himself? If so, why is that supposed to be interesting? So I liked the girl that played Mystique, but I thought it was executed poorly. Her comment to Mrs. Bennet about liking her hair ruined the "surprise" at the end of the episode of ol' HRG unknowingly confessing to the baddies. However, I thought that Tawny Cypress (Simone) did some of her best work in the two seconds that she was ZombieSimone than she did in the rest of her run in the series. But anyway, Mystique is a much better fit than stupid Eden ever was. I hope she sticks around. I also hope that the real Mrs. Bennet is ok. And is Lyle still watching Pay Per View? I have absolutely no interest in any scene featuring Niki, Jessica, NikiJessica or JessicaNiki. And someone needs to tell Ali Larter that heavy breathing is not the most effective way to convey emotion. And while I do like D.L. and the kid (at least most of the time), I will happily sacrifice them if it means that the assassin who doesn't wear a shirt under her suit jacket will disappear with them. Oh, and why was she even contracted to kill Nathan if Linderman wants him in the White House? Did I miss something in my over-analysis of the show? I thought the reunion between Hiro and Nathan was amusing and it showed me the Hiro that I once really liked and who has since vanished from the show. In past episodes, I had no problem with the improvement of Hiro's English...he went back in time; he had time to study with Charlie and whatever. Fine, they at least attempted to explain it. But he was nearly fluent last night, understanding everything that Nathan and other English speakers around him said and speaking in coherent, almost complete sentences himself. When would he have time to get that much better? He's been too busy wallowing in his own self pity. And Ando showing up was big contrived bit of nonsense. If you've ever heard the term Deus Ex Machina...with Ando's appearance they pretty much defined it. But he's thankfully got that damn sword, so maybe Hiro can be fun again. But all that I have written and I do not think I referenced Mohinder or Peter once. And for once, the two of them were in my favorite scene of the evening. But, unsurprisingly, that's not really a good thing. Sendhil Ramamurthy has all the charisma of a paper bag and did nothing to change that last night. But for some reason, I can understand people liking him more than I can people liking Milo Ventimiglia. I have no idea what his appeal is. His acting reminds me of that scene with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Milo's got four techniques: 1. Angry: Scrunched up face and slightly open mouth. 2. Love/Pain: Mouth breathing and brushing his hair to the side. 3. Curiosity: Eyes WIDE open, head swinging from side to side, hair flying about. 4. Confusion: Mouth breathing, eyebrows raised, head tilted to his right. Anyway, it's a shame that they won't kill Peter, cuz I think dropping that dead weight could really help the show. As much as I hate Mohinder (and I really do), his death would only make me happy and wouldn't really affect the show as a whole (though we would never have to hear those insipid voiceovers again). Killing Peter however, man that would shake the show and totally change its direction. That would be awesome. I would also like to see how Milo Ventimiglia would perform his death scene, if only to laugh like I did at the end of last night's episode. Yeah, so the very last scene was my favorite part of last night's episode. That lock of hair dropping to the ground was perhaps the most melodramatic thing the show has ever done. It's making me giggle now. At least now we know where Peter got his scar. (But why didn't FutureHiro know where it came from?) And what's the deal with the really fake looking blood? It looks like cherry pie filling.
