I know I only watched it about 12 hours ago, but I'm ready to call last night's Lost easily the best episode of the season and maybe (maybe) the best episode of the series so far.
It was so good it made my consciousness go back in time while I slept last night and made me forget to set my alarm for this morning. (That's the only explanation I can come up with after oversleeping this morning, because I am certain that I set my alarm last night.)
If a show wants me to care about the romantic involvement of two of its characters, it has to be earned. (See BBC Office versus NBC Office.) And if in two years time, when Lost is getting ready to wrap up for good, if Desmond and Penelope do not at least get to see each other (for real, not in flashbacks) again, I am going to be a might bit heartbroken. That phone conversation was one of the greatest scenes I have ever seen on television though. But it really scared me that Des was gonna drop dead after Sayid asked him if he was ok.
Daniel Faraday is this year's Juliet for me. I love everything he does. (But I do miss Juliet. I hope she has more to do in the coming weeks.)
Slightly disappointed that it appears to be 2004 on the freighter. (I'm still holding out hope that it really isn't. Like I was with Kate being one of the six, I'm 80/20 on it being 2004. Oh, and I'm 40/60 on Aaron being one of the 6.) Does that mean that Grizzly Jack's flash-forward is roughly present time?
Michael's gotta be Ben's man on the freighter. I can't wait for that reveal.
Even though I wasn't crazy about last week's episode, I'm still comfortable saying that Lost is 5 for 5 this year.

Ben Linus, (Awesome) Veterinarian
Conclusions:
Ben's in the coffin. My guess is Hurley (like Sayid, it appears) ultimately realizes that Ben was right all along, and something Locke did caused something terrible to happen. My money is on Claire biting the big one. (Maybe Locke blows up the chopper after Aaron and Claire board it. That's probably too awesome/controversial to happen, so I won't hold my breath.)
Michael's on the boat in an attempt to make up for killing Ana Lucia and Libby.
Jack is funny! (The follow in 20 minutes comment)
The heading that Lapidus must follow is 325: the same heading that Michael had to follow after leaving from the pier.
The future war: Ben leads his troops for one side, with the other has Abbadon second in command to Penny's father or Sun's father. I haven't decided if Abbadon is The Economist or it's his boss.
Odds & Ends:
I'm not saying she's not one of the Oceanic 6, but until I hear someone say that Kate is one, the only ones we know so far are Hurley, Sayid and Jack. (And I am not 100% sure on Jack, but I think he is a good assumption as he seems to freely appear in public in his and Hurley's flash forwards, whereas Kate does not.)
I wish we could have seen Lapidus' reaction when he and Jack were discussing the Red Sox. Because I think Lapidus was talking about the 2007 Sox and Jack (obviously) the 2004.
Apparently, the woman that was with Faraday in his flashback last week was his caretaker, not his wife/girlfriend. In the enhanced repeat before the new ep last night, that information appeared at the bottom of the screen during that scene. I wonder what that means.
And one wacky question:
How old is Rousseau really? If she thinks she's been on the island for 15 years, what does that mean real-world?

Brief Lost Musings...
Don't really have too much time to write, but some things were burning my brain and I had to share.
Two theories on Ben's "man on the boat":
1. Michael (I read this one online, so I can't take credit.)
2. New girl Charlotte (Because I trust her least of all the four newbies.)
New thought that I had while I was falling asleep last night: what if Grizzly Jack was seeing Christian Shepard's "ghost," just like Hurley saw Charlie's last week? Charlie seemed to be the impetus for Hurley's desire to return to "it," so perhaps Christian becomes Jack's, and they are both sent as projections of the Island, because that's where their cold, dead bodies lay. (Assuming, of course that Charlie didn't float off somewhere.)
The footage of 815: cover-up (and if so why and by whom?) or wacky time-rift/time travel goodness? I'm hoping for the latter, but expecting the former. Easiest explanation is usually the right one, right?
By the by, awesome casting on all the 4 new arrivals (and on Matthew Abbaddon – but I already knew Lance Reddick was super cool). I don't really think there's a weak link on the show right now. Performances, writing, direction (and mis-direction) really firing on all cylinders. I really need my full 16 episodes, so this damn strike better end soon enough to give them to me.
Final thought: Joe & Jess asked me weeks ago who I would be if I could be any Lost character. I initially said Sayid because he is awesome. I change my vote now to Benjamin Linus because that dude always has the upper hand. Always.
Actual final thought: I like all the characters so far this year (yes, even Jack and Kate!) I think that is definitely progress.
