Big Love:
Even better than the premiere the second episode of the year showed that this season is really ratcheting up the tension.
I can’t believe that Nikki is using birth control. Wow.
I don’t really understand what’s going through Nikki’s head, but I made for some great soundbites in this ep:
(in regard to their first date with Ana) “What does she want? I mean, she got the front seat and they gave her endless refills.”
and
(in regard to her not getting pregnant even though Margie did recently) “Maybe something awful happened to his parts since then.”
A nice episode for Jeanne Tripplehorn. In addition to running the gamut of emotions with the (non) cancer storyline, she had some great reaction shots, especially in watching Nikki and Margene argue. And then at the end, when she gets the call that her cancer is not back, you can see the look of relief, the appreciation that she is not losing her loving family and the understanding that she made a mistake in suggesting Bill bring Ana into the fold.
I like Aaron Paul, who plays (played?) Sarah’s boyfriend, Scott. They had a few nice scenes. (He’s also really good on Breaking Bad.)
Wanda and Alby in a room together is a whole lotta crazy. Wanda’s smarter than she acts, though, so I’m worried that she’s gonna find out who the other Jane Doe is.
I can’t wait to see what the Lois/Frank storyline will bring.
It was good to see Roman get a real meaty scene – have not really seen that in awhile.
I like Ana, but it seems obvious that she can’t work with them. It would be a disaster.
Poor Sarah – I wasn’t shocked that she’s pregnant, and I think it’s a really interesting road to go down. Any excuse to see more of Amanda Seyfried is good for me.
Flight of the Conchords:
So far this season, FotC has been very funny, though the songs (with one notable exception on display in this ep) have not been as memorable as last season’s.
Highlights from Sunday’s ep:
- Murray is always fantastic: Mom and Dad guitars, 2 stars (out of 100).
- Mel is fantastic, too: Buying the super straw; the massage scene (with her husband!)
- The human condom
- And of course: “The ladies go crazy for my sugar lumps.”
