Thoughts in preparation for tonight’s return of BSG

Battlestar Galactica is finally back for its final run of episodes and I cannot wait to watch tonight.

As the 10 o’clock hour quickly approaches, I have many thoughts bouncing around my brain…

It has been awhile since I last saw an episode and since I watch so many serialized shows it is hard to keep all of these things straight, but I don’t recall ever reading anything about Tyrol and Callie’s kid. Much like Hera, this kid is a hybrid if Tyrol is a true skinjob and Callie is human. (I wish I could remember his name. Joe? I’ll call him Joe cuz I can’t remember.) I know Hera was the first and she’s older, but no one has really even acknowledged that there is presumably now a second hybrid. I find this curious.

Another question I don’t recall ever reading…could the final five all be hybrids? If they are hybrids and were thrown into their lives without anyone knowing, that would explain why they are one-of-a-kind and why they didn’t know they were Cylons. Well, we still don’t know the fifth, so I could be wrong about this…

Speaking of the fifth, my thoughts on who he/she may be:
Starbuck: Obviously, with her death-defying antics at the end of season three and her general wackiness in the first half of season four. Maybe too obvious and easy, but that’s better than picking someone shocking just to shock the audience.
Tom Zarek: Another seemingly obvious choice, I think. When I first starting watching BSG, I was convinced that Zarek was a Cylon. But he really hasn’t been around too much lately, so maybe not. (Or maybe that’s how the show is trying to get us off his scent.)
Gaeta: Another one I’ve always been suspicious of, but I don’t think that I really think it’s him.
Ellen Tigh or Callie: I don’t really think it can be a dead character, because all of the final five seem to be “special” and to have a copy would cheapen his/her special-ness.

Who I definitely don’t think the final Cylon is:
1. Either Adama: If they do that, they just want to shock and surprise us.
2. Helo: That would render much of the first season and Hera essentially pointless.
3. Roslin: For me, that will lessen the impact of her coming death and that of much of her overall series-long storyline. And Adama’s best friend and love interest both being Cylons? Nah.
4. Baltar: He’s awesome enough being a megalomaniacal human. I just don’t want him to be a Cylon. They’ve been down that road a few times already, anyway.

Also, I think there will be many casualties coming in the final episodes, so here’s who I think won’t make it to the end:
1. Roslin: As noted above, I don’t think she will be saved again.
2. Baltar: I think he finds some redemption in his death.
3. D’Anna: Only one of her left anyway, right?
4. Cavil: Seemingly the leader of one group of Cylons, I think his death will signify their loss.
5. Tori: Maybe killed by Tyrol as revenge?

I just can’t wait to see how the end begins!
